Welcome to use the Regulatory and Policy Database!
The database contains policy and regulatory instruments and documents that are relevant for economic developments in the Arctic.
It has been compiled based on the research themes of the JUSTNORTH project (2020-2023, funded by the EU under Horizon 2020).
The project carried out 17 diverse case studies dealing with a broad spectrum of economic activities - ranging from renewable energy,
tourism, fisheries to mineral resources extraction - and taking place across the circumpolar Arctic, in particular in
Northern Fennoscandia and North Atlantic regions. The database does not include therefore all possible relevant policies and
legislation relevant to Arctic economic development, but it is a comprehensive overview of applicable laws and policies and
should be a helpful resource for decision-makers, rightsholders, stakeholders and researchers.
Database entries (policies and regulations) can be viewed based on socio-economic activities (e.g. coastal management, transport, mining)
and the regulatory concern (e.g. environment, climate change, ethics, maritime governance), and you can further
limit your search to one of the Arctic jurisdictions or levels of governance (global-regional-national).
If you notice any mistakes and discrepancies, please let us know at astepien(at)ulapland.fi
The database is accurate as of May 2022 (next update: September 2023).
